Universal Home Video has re-released the 1931 horror classic "Dracula" with a twist: a new musical score composed by Philip Glass and performed by the Kronos Quartet. Because the film was originally released in that transitional period between silents and talkies, there was no official score for "Dracula"; rather there were brief musical intervals that included Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" (over the opening credits) and Wagner's "Die Meistersinger" overture (in one scene). In addition, director Tod Browning felt that Bela Lugosi's melodic voice was the only score needed. The new score will be showcased this fall in live concert performances featuring Glass and Kronos, scheduled for London, New York, Oakland and Los Angeles; Nonesuch Records will release the soundtrack in conjunction with the August 31 VHS ($14.98) release (a DVD version will be released later this year).(Posted August 23) New sell-through announcements: New Line's "Pleasantville," "Practical Magic" and "Soldier" will be available August 31 with $19.98 price tags.
